7:50 PM – DISH tried to make a bid to get it’s hands inside Sprint, however previous bidder SoftBank eventually won. Now DISH is looking to another company at another attempt to use its acquired wireless spectrum in an LTE network. Reuter’s sources say that DISH is in talks with T-Mobile majority owner Deutsche Telekom AG.
It seems that DISH is very eager to use its acquired LTE spectrum. The company has to either partner up with a carrier or acquire a carrier in a purchase. They tried to do that with Sprint, however that did not turn out well. It’s not certain that Deutsche Telekom AG may easily give up T-Mobile to DISH. The reason is because CEO John Legere and T-Mobile have started to reshape the wireless industry in United States.
T-Mobile has scrapped device subsidies, eliminated wireless contracts and is now working hard to expand its LTE network as fast as possible. We also reported yesterday that T-Mobile is set to introduce their 4th phase of the “Uncarrier” plan, dubbed “Uncarrier 4.”
With improvements like these, it would take quite the sum of money for DISH to purchase T-Mobile from Deutsche Telekom AG. Even though T-Mobile is in debt right now, customers are joining the carrier left and right. Other carriers such as Verizon and AT&T are losing subscribers.
DISH recently partnered up with Sprint to bring LTE to homes for broadband service. However, this new service does not use DISH’s spectrum, rather only Sprint’s network. It seems that DISH is really itching to use its spectrum.
