In recent years, it’s obvious that HTC has been struggling in the smartphone market. The company has released headsets left and right, but nothing has been successful for them. The highly anticipated HTC One was released earlier this year that did catch attention from users, investors, and analysts alike, but the smartphone lost in the end, especially due to production issues. The company has been trying hard to gain some sort of traction, even having Beats partnering up with them, but even Beats is looking to buyout the shares that HTC owns in the company. What is HTC looking to do now?
According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, HTC is now looking to move away from Android and build its own homemade operating system. The company is working with the Chinese government to cater its own mobile platform to specifically satisfy the Chinese consumers. HTC is looking to especially integrate features in the new OS such as deep integration with Chinese apps like the Twitter-like microblog Weibo.
The Wall Street Journal continues on to state that China is very eager to have another operating system option. A large portion of the market all over the world is currently run by Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS software’s, respectively. The government is looking to open up more options for it’s people. While HTC may have its focus in the Chinese market, if they are successful, this could pose a threat to other companies such as Google and Apple if the new OS is brought into the US market, especially.
Anything is currently possible, but we should give credit to HTC for continuously working hard to bring new things to the table. The company may be struggling right now, but sooner or later, it may hit a niche that will bring it success.
