What to expect from Apple’s iPhone 5C tomorrow

iphone5c-640x353The iPhone 5S isn’t the only iPhone expected to be released tomorrow.  Apple will be introducing a new low cost iPhone named ‘5C’.  The main point of the iPhone 5C is to help Apple gain more traction in the prepaid markets.  Currently, Apple has been performing poorly in markets such as China, and it needs to release a more budget iPhone to attract more buyers.

With that in mind, lets round up some iPhone 5C information.  Thee information provided in this article are based on rumors over the past couple of months, some from credible sources, some aren’t.  We will get the official word from Apple tomorrow, but until then, lets talk a bit more about the iPhone 5C.

Design, Look, Colors… Whatever You Want To Call It

Since this iPhone is expected to be low cost, we can expect the design to be made with non-premium material.  The iPhone 5C is expected to be made from polycarbonate, much similar to how the iPhone 3G/3GS were made.   The material that Apple has chosen is higher quality, and to provide much more scratch resistant.

Another big point that the iPhone 5C will be really known for is offering various color options.  Over the past few months, we have been seeing parts leak out of supply chain and these parts show us what color the devices might be.  Some colors we have seen are green, red, yellow and blue.  Adding onto that, it seems like there may not be a black iPhone 5C.

Hardware… The Stuff Under The Hood

Rumor has it that Apple may discontinue selling the iPhone 5.  The reason is because from what we have seen, from logic board leak, to back design leak, the design is very similar to the iPhone 5.  So essentially, we will have the iPhone 5C with different exterior, but the same interior as the iPhone 5.

Since the internals are the same as the iPhone 5, we expect to see a 4-inch LCD display with resolution of 640 by 1136 pixels (326 ppi), a dual-core A6 chip,  1GB of RAM, LTE support, an 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with a single LED flash, and 1.2-megapixel front camera.  For battery life, the battery isn’t likely to change, so staying at 1440 mAh is a high possibility.

The storage options for the iPhone 5C will likely be the same as the options now.  The options will be 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, with no microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The iPhone 5C of course will come with iOS 7 software, but will have some features held back since there is no hardware to support it.  Such features like the fingerprint scanning, but of course that’s an obvious one.

Price… The Real Question

Since the iPhone 5C is expected to be a budget phone, the price is something many question.  We aren’t talking about on-contract prices, rather off-contract prices.  The price point has been bouncing around for months now, but most likely Apple is rumored to price the iPhone 5C between $350-$450.

The iPhone 4S is currently offered at $549 off-contract, and the iPhone 4 is offered at $450.  It’s most likely that Apple will keep the price under $450, but having it around $350-$400 makes the most sense since Apple would want to have the maximum profit margin possible.

Now for on-contract pricing, seeing as the main point of this phone is to offer the device in prepaid markets, there will be a lot of customers who will want the iPhone 5C.  The low budget iPhone will especially be appealing to parents who want to get a smartphone for their children.

Launch… The Purchase Date

The iPhone 5C is expected to be released along with the iPhone 5S on September 20.  Will you be getting the iPhone 5C?
