AT&T apologizes for 9/11 tribute which many found to be in poor taste

att-9-11It’s really nice to see when companies pay tribute to events that have happened in history.  In today’s case, AT&T made a tribute to 9/11 on twitter, however it seems things backfired.  Although it seems that they tried to do something good, many users had something else to say.  The image, as you can see to your right, is what AT&T published on their twitter.

The twitter post said “Never Forget”, also featuring a photo of the New York skyline.  The photo has a smartphone showing the area where the Twin Towers stood.  Many users did not like the post at all, including BuzzFeed, who called it “without a doubt the tackiest 9/11 memorial on the Internet.”

With the bad taste left in peoples’ mouth, AT&T issued a small statement, saying that “We apologize to anyone who felt our post was in poor taste.”  They continued on to say that “the image was solely meant to pay respect to those affected by the 9/11 tragedy.

It’s understandable what AT&T is trying to do, which is to pay tribute.  What do you think?
