Qualcomm-s-SnapDragon10:10 AM – Qualcomm’s processors are a very common choice amongst mobile vendors.  Companies such as HTC, Samsung and LG use Qualcomm’s processors in their smartphones these days.  Today, the company has officially announced the introduction of Snapdragon 805, an update to the Snapdragon 800 processors.  This update brings a handful of things to the table.

The Snapdragon 805 processor comes with a host of new things.  First, it comes with Krait 450 CPUs with up to 2.5GHz speed.  It’s memory bandwidth has also been increased and has capability for up to 25.6 GB/second.  The Snapdragon 800 stood at 14.9 GB/s.

Snapdragon 805 comes paired up with new Ultra HD-capable Adreno 420 GPU.  The new GPU boasts 40 percent more graphical horsepower, and also enabling 4K displays on devices as well as the ability to run Ultra HD content on an external display over a wireless connection.  Some other features found in the new GPU is hardware tessellation and geometry shaders which is normally found in high-end PC graphics cards, as well as hardware 4K HEVC (H.265) decoding to bring more efficient video playback.

According to Qualcomm’s press release, the company plans to release the new processor in first half of 2014.  So there is a good chance we will see it at CES 2014, which takes place in Las Vegas this coming January.

Qualcomm is really stepping up its game in the processing world.  Being a mobile chip giant it already is, it’s continuing to bring top-notch processing power to our hands.  The company has already noted previously that 64-bit chips are already in work, so it’s just a matter of time until we see an official announcement from them.
