Netflix currently has a very limited number of devices that it supports HDR video streaming on. Those devices are LG V30, and Sony’s Xperia XZ1 and XZ Premium. Now the company is adding a fourth device to its very short list.
Spotted by SamMobile, Netflix is now confirming HDR video streaming support on the Galaxy Note 8. The Note 8 is the fourth device to be added onto its list. If you’re a subscriber of Netflix’s top-tier streaming plan, then you will be able to take advantage of the HDR streaming on your phone.
HDR streaming offers a better contrast ratio and color accuracy. Currently though, the market isn’t dead set on what the true standards are. There are currently five major HDR formats that include Dolby Vision, and HDR10+.
If you plan to stream at that quality over your mobile network, good luck with that. Many carriers, especially Verizon, are now placing strict limitations on what you can stream through your phone. So make sure you’re on a dependable WiFi before starting HDR quality stream on your phone.
