By 2025, Uber wants to convert its entire London fleet to electric

Uber’s UK operations team has announced that the company plans to go electric for its entire London fleet by 2025. In addition, the company said that by 2019, it wants all of its vehicles on its uberX service to be either hybrid or fill-electric.

London’s transport agency recently passed legislation requiring that by 2020, all new private hire vehicles operating in the area must be zero emissions capable. Already, the company has been making strides to achieve this goal by expanding its all-electric fleet of vehicles in London to 150 earlier this year.

In addition, Uber today announced that it will help drivers with their upgrades. The company will help drivers with funding for an electric or hybrid (“up to £5,000”). To help with dumping old diesel vehicles, the company will help “up to £1,500” in Uber credits.

The company plans to invest £2 million into this next month, but can also spend up to £150 million in total. In order to help pay for this, the company will be adding 35p to the cost of every ride taken in London, with all funds from this surcharge going to the new fund.
