Today at Apple’s iPhone X event, Tim Cook took to the stage to unveil the new Apple TV 4K top-box. Apple’s new streaming box provides “one of the most stunning visuals ever” and “cinematic quality to virtually everything you watch”. Right out of the box, it will have native 4K resolution with four times the number of pixels as Full HD.
Apple TV 4K also comes with support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision video streaming to give compatibility to a wide range of television sets. In terms of software, tvOS 11 has been completely redone in 4K and also Aerial screensaver has been updated in 4K resolution, as well.
Under the good, Apple TV 4K is powered by the A10X Fusion chip that delivers two times the CPU performance, as well as four times the graphics performance. This is a much better and needed improvement over its predecessor.
Apple also stated that iTunes Movies will also be upgraded to 4K resolution, and best part is that they will cost the same as today’s 1080p movies on the iTunes Store. Even better is that those movies you’ve already purchased will get an upgrade to 4K resolution at no extra charge.
The device will be available for order on September 15, starting at $179. The device will launch on September 22.
