Google being sued by women for pay discrimination in a possible class action lawsuit

Things don’t seem to be looking good for Google right now. Three women have filed a lawsuit against the search engine giant, being accused of pay discrimination against female employees by underpaying them and denying them opportunity for promotions.

The plaintiffs hope to turn their complaint into a class action lawsuit against Google that will cover women who have worked at Google within the past four years. The lawsuit was file on behalf of three women — Kelly Ellis, Holly Pease, and Kelli Wisuri.

The lawsuit claims that “Google has discriminated and continues to discriminate against its female employees by systematically paying them lower compensation than Google pays to male employees performing substantially similar work under similar working conditions.”

The three women state that they were purposefully placed in lower career tracks than their male co-workers and received lower salaries and bonuses because of this. They also say that Google violated California law, including the California Equal Pay Act, and are asking for damages and lost wages from Google. In addition, they want Google to fix their discriminatory hiring practices.
