With the legal battle between Qualcomm and Apple heating up, a new report from Bloomberg tells us that Qualcomm has filed another lawsuit against Apple. In the lawsuit, Qualcomm is accusing Apple of sharing proprietary code with Intel.
The lawsuit, filed in California state court in San Diego, states that Apple breached contract and terms with Qualcomm in regards to software that’s required to allow mobile chips to interact with the rest of the smartphone. Qualcomm accuses Apple of not providing the proper protection for the chipmaker’s software and “isn’t allowing an audit to review how the iPhone maker handles the software, an obligation that Qualcomm says is included in their contract.”
Apple has been hard at work to re-working internals of iPhones to get away from relying on Qualcomm for modem parts. Instead, Apple wants to bring more business to Intel. This of course isn’t sitting well with Qualcomm. Starting with the iPhone 7, Apple started using Intel’s cellular chips and has been using both Qualcomm and Intel since.
Right now, Apple uses both Qualcomm and Intel for chips, but recent report from The Wall Street Journal tells us that Apple wants to drop Qualcomm entirely from its lineup and use Intel for future business, perhaps bringing in a few other suppliers to help with chips.
