Year-to-year growth for the computer market has been declining steadily over the last six year, but there’s some good news now. According to IDC, the PC market actually grew 0.7 percent in the holiday season of 2017. This report contradicts an earlier IDC forecast that predicted a 1.7 percent decrease in shipments for the PC market.
While there was a small growth in the PC market, it’s nothing to be blown away about. IDC believes that while the computer market is still relatively weak, the market is starting to stabilize. Overall though, the yer’s shipments were down 0.2 percent, with a total of 259.5 million units shipped. While this is a decline, it’s still better than 2016’s 1.5 percent decline.
Among the PC market performers, the top PC performer in 2017 was HP, with a market share in the US of about 34 percent. After HP, Lenovo came in, with Dell in third place. Apple remained in fourth place where it grew its shipments 7.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017. For fifth place, both ASUS and Acer were tied.
