Amazon Prime subscription monthly cost increased by $2

Your monthly bill will start seeing an increase by $2

If you’ve been subscribed to the monthly subscription of Amazon Prime, there’s some bad news for you because the subscription just got a bit more expensive.

Starting today (via Recode), the price of the monthly Prime subscription is going up by $2, which means from $10.99 to $12.99. If you’re a student with a valid .edu email address, you will continue to save money, but that option is seeing a price increase as well, from $5.49 to $6.49. These changes are going into effect today for new customers. Existing customers will see the increase in their bill starting February.

While the monthly bill has been increase by $2, the annual fee is still price at $99 and looks like a much better deal. This move is essentially showing us that Amazon is pushing customers to opt in for the annual option. The annual option helps customer save money and gives Amazon more guaranteed revenue they can count on.

If you’re currently on the monthly plan, it might not be a bad idea to opt in for the annual plan, if it makes sense for your budget. On February 1st, Amazon is holding its quarterly earnings call, and we’ll tune in to see the company says anything about the new pricing structure.
