Essential finally brings Android Oreo 8.1 to its phones

When Android Oreo 8.0 was released, Andy Rubin’s Essential company decided to skip the update for its phones, and instead opted to wait for Oreo 8.1. The company has announced that the Android Oreo 8.1 update is now available for Essential phones, effectively immediately.

With Android Oreo 8.1, you get faster start up, smart text selection, windowed video multitasking features and instant apps. It’s worth mentioning that not that many people are waiting for the update either. Last month, IDC noted that Essential had shipped less than 90,000 phones in the first six months after the phone’s launch.

If you’ve to an Essential phone and want to update to the latest OS, now is the time to do so. Just check your phone for over the air update and you should be all set.
