Facebook has banned hate group Britain First

Today, we have learned that Facebook has banned alt-right group Britain First, which “repeatedly posted content designed to incite animosity and hatred against minority groups,” according to a release from the company.

If you don’t know about Britain First, they’re the organization behind three anti-Muslim tweets that were retweeted by President Trump (pictured below). When this went viral, Twitter suspended the Britain First account, and two months later, President offered a questionable apology for his actions.

The organization is notorious for posting inflammatory racist content on its own Facebook page, and on the Pages of leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen. Facebook noted that the content violated its Community Standards, and the Page administrators were warned multiplied times previously about their posts. After a final written warning, which was ignored, the social media company removed Britain First’s page, as well as pages of other two leaders.

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, weighed in on Facebook’s actions taken against Britain First via a tweet, saying “Britain First is a vile and hate-fuelled group whose sole purpose is to sow division. I welcome Facebook’s decision to remove their content from its platform — their sick intentions to incite hatred within our society via social media are reprehensible.”
