By now, we have already established that millions of Facebook users are affected by the Cambridge Analytica scandal, but the one question remains: Was I affected? Well, we have an answer for you.
Facebook has started sending News Feed notifications to explain whether users’ accounts were affected. If you’re still waiting to see if you were affected, you can actually head to this page and find out immediately. Basically, it explains if you or your friends ever logged into This Is Your Digital Life, the quiz app that was developed by university researcher Dr. Aleksandr Kogan. Cambridge Analytica used this data to profile and manipulate users.
The social giant has apologized for what happened and has ensured users that this type of data harvesting will never happen again. Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised to investigate “every app that has access to a large amount of information.” It’s not just Cambridge Analytica that saw suspension either. Facebook has suspended AggregateIQ and CubeYou for using tactics similar to Cambridge Analytica.
Facebook continues to strengthen a bunch of its data policies, which includes disabling the ability to search for users by phone number and email addresses, and restricting the information accessible through its Events API.
Lastly, if you’re interested, Zuckerberg is scheduled to testify at a joint Senate hearing later today.
