Google will be holding a gaming press event next month at GDC 2019

At the Game Developers Conference (GDC) next month, Google is planning to hold a mysterious gaming-related event. Today, Google started sending out emails inviting members of the media, and said to “gather around” for a Google keynote that promises “all will be revealed” on March 19th at 10AM PT / 1PM ET.

In the message, Google includes an interesting animated GIF with an explosion of light in a hallway. Interestingly, Google usually participates at GDC with developer-focused events that bring latest updates and changes regarding Android gaming developers. This year, however, is seems will be different, and the company is sending a clear message about it.

While we don’t know what Google has planned, the company has been working on Project Stream service over the past six months. Project Stream allows Chrome users to stream games in their browser. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was the first and only game that was tested publicly using the service, but now the company may be preparing to expand on that with a full game streaming service.

While having a game streaming service is nice, Google will face some stiff competition from Sony, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon. For Microsoft, they have been planning their own xCloud game streaming service and have public trials scheduled for later this year. Both Sony and Nvidia have something similar planned, as well as Amazon.
