Tesla has finally done it, ladies and gentlemen. The company has brought the long-promised standard Model 3 for $35,000. This was Elon Musk’s “secret masterplan” that he mentioned back in 2006, bringing a much more affordable electric vehicle to the masses.
There are several versions of the Model 3 available for purchase, such as short and longer ranges, and new interior options to choose from. The company has been promising (and teasing) to bring the base-level Model 3 for quite some time now. Overtime, the company reduced the price of the Model 3, but failed to deliver the long-promised base model.
In an email, Tesla sent its retail stores all the details of the announcement for the new options the company will be offering in the Model 3. Starting today, US customers can begin configuring the base-level Model 3 for purchase and reserve it for $2,500.
Here’s what we know so far about the base-level Model 3:
- The Model 3, base level, will come with standard interior and standard battery that brings 130mph top speed and 5.6s 0-60 acceleration.
- Tesla has also enabled a new option called “Partial Premium Interior” that brings better seats than the ones offered in standard interior, and offer a different “standard range plus” battery pack for the tune of $2,000 premium.
- There’s a new Model 3 configuration called Standard Range Plus. It tops out at 240 miles of range, top speed of 140mph, and 0-60mph in just 5.3 seconds.
For those interested in delivered, Tesla says that it will begin deliveries within the next 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your choice of configurations. If you had previously reserved a Model 3 and were waiting for the base model, those orders still have priority in the delivery process. For those of you in Europe, Musk said that orders for these configurations will be available within the “next 3 to 6 months.”
