Starting out with a really spunky video to welcome everyone at the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple took the stage to introduce its all-new news service called Apple News+ (Apple News Plus).
Dubbed as “Netfilix for news” subscription, Apple is building out the Apple News app with participation from many high-profile news organizations and publishers. While those services use a paywall already, the new subscription service is intended to be a central hug service that will bring all of those to one landing spot.
This new Apple News service is design much like other subscription services, such as Netflix and Spotify. They aggregate paid content from multiple sources and charge customers a single monthly fee.
The company have brought on over 300 magazines, such as The New Yorker, Esquire, The Altantic, Men’s Health, and Vogue, and Apple News Plus will be “the only place” where you’ll be able to get all of them at once. The Wall Street Journal will be the big new name that Apple adds to Apple News Plus from the newspaper business. In addition, there will be over 30 Canadian magazines along with Canada’s The Star.
A very interesting addition by Apple is the way you read. The company unveiled that it doesn’t know what you’re reading, therefore they don’t allow advertisers to track what you’re doing and reading.
For the Apple News+ service, you will pay $9.99 per month, including Family Sharing, at no extra charge. The service is available starting today, with the first month being free. The immediate launch is available in the United States and Canada.
