We have Siri from Apple and Google Now from from Google, which is a duopoly current ran by these two companies. There needs to be a third player who will has the ability to have a large influence in the current market. Microsoft may have the chance to bring that influence into the market to steer away some attention from Apple and Google.
According to a new survey done on Windows Phone, over 22,000 people have come to like the new name of the upcoming virtual assistant, so lets meet Cortana unofficially. In an incident on eBay, where a developer version of Windows Phone 8.1 “Blue” on a Lumia 920 was sold off to someone else, thus this news leaking out to the public.
In the new features to come in the new Windows Phone 8.1 “Blue”, the most interesting may be the introduction of Cortana. While Microsoft has yet to reveal the new virtual assistant, it seems like the Halo community (and others) have taken a liking to the name of the virtual assistant.
The name “Cortana” is obtained from the popular game series Halo, who has been keeping the game alive since 2001. While we think the name is a marketing tool for Microsoft in order to bring in thousands of people to the Windows Phone platform, especially those familiar and attached with the name, however, this may be a great way for the company to have a good jump start. The company may be very far away from catching up with Google Now and Siri, but at least it gets a chance to run with the big guys.
Does Microsoft stand a chance?
