9:45 AM – On Tuesday, Samsung officially took the wraps off of it’s next smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Round. What’s different about it? It has a curved screen. Both Samsung and LG have been working on curved displays for quite some time now, and this is the first time we have seen a curved display smartphone being release into the market, Samsung debuting the smartphone as the world’s first curved display smartphone.
There are several features that the company is introducing in the smartphone, such as the “roll effect”, which is where the phone is tipped downward in the landscape mode and shows the time, missed calls and battery level. Another feature is called Gravity Effect, which offers “visual interaction” with the screen. Here, what is does is that the display is off while the music player is running, so you can press the left side of the screen to play the previous track, and tap the right side of the screen to play the next track.
The smartphone also offers latest hardware. It comes with a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED with resolution of 1080 x 1920, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 3GB of RAM, microSDXC support, and 32 GB internal storage. Those concerned with battery life, the smartphone comes with a 2800mAh battery, with Android 4.3 pre-installed. The phone is equipped with a 13MP rear-facing camera, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Currently, the phone is only offered in Korea. The company currently has no plans to offer the headset in other markets right now. It costs about $1000 USD when you convert it from 1.09 million won. That’s quite the premium price that Samsung is charging in Korea.
