12:45 PM – We already know that the iPhone is one of the most popular used for for taking pictures. To this day, many people upload photos, and now also videos to Instagram, using their iPhones.
In this new test by travel photographer Austin Mann (via Engadget), took a trip to Patagonia to put iPhone 5 and the newly release iPhone 5s against each other. The iPhone 5, being one year old now is by no means a slouch, which is the reason why it went up against the iPhone 5s.
Apple used an 8-megapixel camera in the iPhone 5s, which is also found in the iPhone 5, however, there were several improvements made to it. The new camera has 1.5µ pixels, ƒ/2.2 aperture, Sapphire crystal lens cover, True Tone flash, backside illumination sensor, five-element lens, and hybrid IR filter. New features also that come as 5s-only are Slo-mo video and burst mode.
Mann put the two phones to the tests. He says that “all the fancy new features like fingerprint scan are nice and nifty but as a travel photographer, all I really care about is what this camera can do.” This is very true. A while back, a Chicago news company went through a bunch of lay offs where they let go of all their photographers, instead, hiring and teaching new photographers to use an iPhone, and iPhoneography.
Panorama, Slo-mo video, burst mode and standard photo-taking tests were done, at many different locations. Edited and unedited versions of the photos are displayed for show as well. The results are absolutely stunning, to say the least. The iPhone 5s is the clear winner, but the iPhone 5 isn’t very far behind either.
