While the popularity of the iPhone continues to grow, more telco’s are wanting to carry the iPhone to offer their subscribers. The 4 major wireless carriers in the United States already carry the iPhone, and several regional carriers are starting to carry the iPhone as well.
This time, regional carrier Cincinnati Bell that offers service to customers in Cincinnati, Ohio, over all in the state of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Confirmed by The Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper, Cincinnati Bell will start offering the iPhone 5 to its customers on August 16, 2013. The telco is not offering any other iPhone except for the iPhone 5.
In a leaked document provided MacRumors, the device is priced higher than any other carrier. Starting at the price of $299.99 with a two-year contract. However, for those who are interested in getting the iPhone with this carrier, the company is running $100 mail-in-rebate promotion. The iPhone will cost you $199.99 with a 2-year contract after $100 mail-in-rebate and trade-in. Normally, the iPhone 5 on other carriers runs at $199.99 for the 16 GB version. It is currently unknown which version of the iPhone 5 the promotion is referring to.
The regional carrier has been struggling as of late with revenue and subscriber loss. Rhe carrier’s wireless subscribers in the June quarter fell to 370,000 from 430,000 before. Revenue went down sixteen percent to 52 million. The iPhone, as popular as it is right now may help the carrier gain some more subscribers and increase its revenue.
Cincinnati Bell currently offers only 4G on their network, however, the company is still evaluating if investing in the LTE market will be worthwhile and profitable.
