8:50 AM – Spotify already offers a premium music streaming option which allows you to stream any and all types of music. They also offer a free, ad-supported streaming option, but on-demand music was not a part of it.
According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Spotify is looking to change that by offering free, ad-supported on-demand music to its listeners. This would be a free mobile version for anyone to listen to and revolves around playing personalized radio.
Of course there will be set limitations on how much you can stream, but that’s usually a given. Currently, Spotify’s on-demand mobile service is only available to premium subscribers who pay a monthly fee for the service, while its free version is restricted to PCs.
Spotify will be able to offer this new service by nabbing a deal with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. As usual, the rates and the level of control Spotify would have on the music was the main discussion of the deal. But it seems Spotify has worked out the major questions and is now on track to make a reveal sometime next week, according to the Journal.
