11:10 AM – If you’re on AT&T on Verizon, you’re most likely on the data capped plans. Whether you’re on 300MB, 2GB or even 3GB, you always have to wonder if you’re using too much data. Those on the old godfathered unlimited data plan don’t have to worry much, but those on the newer tiered plans have to worry about overage fees.
Even though the capped data plans aren’t to our liking, there is a new tool that will help you manage your data better. The tool, “Know My App,” is provided by CTIA, allows customers to see which apps on their smartphones uses how much data. If there is an app that uses a lot of data, perhaps more than 30 percent of your monthly allowance, then maybe you should use that app when you’re only on Wi-Fi, and not on your cellular data.
Of course there are several tools that carriers provide in order to help you keep track of how much data you’re using. There are even tools with in your smartphone that allow you to see how much data you’re using on which app. This new tool by CTIA provides extra assistance on basic, general usage to give you a rough estimate of how much data you could potentially use.
At this point, it’s wishful thinking to say carriers such as AT&T and Verizon will do away with tiered data plans, however that may or may not happen in the future. For now, it’s best to use all of the useful tools that are provided (especially free!) to our advantage and make the best of a bad situation.
