4:05 PM – Netflix has become one of the most commonly used video-streaming platforms on the internet. The company has really taken off in the recent years and now offers its subscribers thousands of shows and videos, ready for streaming. Until now, the company has offered a stream-only plan for just $7.99 a month, with higher pricing options available that include DVD rentals. See it as a late Christmas present, but the company is now offering future subscribers an even lower price for Netflix membership.
According to a report from AdWeek, the company is now offering standard-definition streaming for just $6.99. That is $1 cheaper than the previous plan, which starts at just $7.99 in both standard or HD streaming. The lower price is offered only to new customers. The only drawback is that it only supports streaming to a single device at a time.
The reason why Netflix is doing this is to target penny-pinchers. While most of us may already have Netflix memberships (I sure do!), there are also those customers who are extra careful with their money. The company is always testing new tactics to attract customers, and this is another attempt to do so. With the $6.99 plan, the plan is restricted to new subscribers only, and for a good reason too because new subscribers are their target. Investors are also concerned about the company’s growth potential and new ways to increase revenue, so this is another attempt to gain more customers.
A $1 discount may not seem like a lot, but to a person who is very careful with their money, the $12 a year savings are important.
