One of the best and widely used cameras on a smartphone today is the iPhone’s camera.  Many users are uploading pictures left and right on their Instagram, for example, and sharing with their friends and family.  The 8-megapixel camera on the iPhone 5 already features top-notch image quality.  Sony, the provider of the sensors used in the iPhone is about to take camera shooting to a whole new level.

In a new report by SonyAlphaRumors, Sony is creating two new Wi-Fi/NFC wireless connection-enabled lens that will snap right onto your smartphone, allowing you to take 18-20 megapixel photos.  One camera lens includes CMOS sensor with a 10x zoom lens, while the other has a one-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor with a 2/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens.  The accessory lens will come with built-in sensors, Bionz processor, and SD card slot for you to store your photos on.

Smartphone owners will be able to enjoy these lens paired with Sony’s dedicated app that will allow you to take full advantage of the hardware.

The two camera lens that Sony will be releasing are DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lenses.  Having the ability to take Cyber-shot quality images right on your smartphone is something to really look forward to.  While Sony is prepping these lens for the market, the price point is something that comes to mind.  With the top grade hardware being used in the lens, I imagine the price point won’t be in the low end.  Knowing Sony and the quality of products they provide, professional photographers will easily pay $500 and on for this type of hardware.

Back in May, Chicago Sun-Times newspaper company fired all of its photographers and started to give new ‘iPhoneography’ training.  Knowing what Sony is about to release, I imagine the company will more than likely take full advantage of this.  Will more companies follow?

Are you looking forward to Sony releasing these two highly-anticipated lenses?DSC-QX100_Lifestyle_02_Xperia-i1_EXP201412E-1200_zps983dabbd
