Many tech companies are taking action to help fight against hate, amongst other things. We recently reported that Apple is disabling their Apple Pay platform for websites that sell white supremacist merchandise. Now Squarespace is taking action against hate speech by removing several websites from their platform that promote hate speech.
According to a report from The Verge, Squarespace is saying that they will begin removing several websites that violate their acceptable usage policy. A Squarespace spokesperson told The Verge that “In light of recent events, we have made the decision to remove a group of sites from our platform.” In addition, the company has “given the site owners 48 hours’ notice.”
Squarespace denied to specify which websites they were being removed, and also when, but the company said that they gave the website owners 48 hours’ notice. There are several websites including National Policy Institute that violate Squarespace’s policy.
