According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, iPhone 8 which is due to be announced by Apple next week, will not have Touch ID as part of its design. Rumor has it that Apple will take off the Touch ID from iPhone 8 in favor of possibly something else.
The Journal says that Apple was running into production issues when trying to embed Touch ID into the iPhone 8, and was forced to push back production by a month. After running into a lot of issues, Apple decided to just cut Touch ID from the phone entirely and will rely on facial recognition as a way of entry into the phone, as well as a selling point.
Even so with Touch ID removed, having production difficulties is hard on a company. Apple could see “extended supply shortfalls” when it launches, meaning the phone will be that much harder to find.
It’s also rumored that iPhone 8 is expected to be in very short supply until end of 2017. It may also be possible that Apple could announce the iPhone 8 but not launch the phone until a later date. This way, the company has some extra time to resolve issues that it’s currently running into and have a decent launch.
