Samsung took a bold step with the Galaxy Note 1 when they introduced the stylus with it, and surprisingly, the smartphone has been quite the hit. The company this time around is trying another category. The now-dying era of the flip phone, Samsung is looking to revive it and expand in that category. While it may seem a bit silly for the company to take a step back into the flip phone era, there are many customers out there who still prefer a flip phone.
On Wednesday, the company officially announced it’s now Android flip phone, named Samsung Hennessy. The phone has the latest hardware and the latest software. It features dual 3.3-inch touch displays with resolutions of 320 x 480 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor for any task, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1500 mAh battery and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software. And as usual it also includes USB 2.0, Bluetooth, GPS and WLAN. Samsung equipping the flip phone with the latest hardware, but still retaining the old-style handling of the phone is bound to attract customers who are more comfortable with a flip phone.
Samsung has yet to announce availability of the phone and price. It will be interesting to see what kind of response customers give to this path that Samsung is risking to take.
