Spotted by Ars Technica, it appears that California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control has unveiled new regulatory rules that bans drones from delivering marijuana. The Bureau is also currently developing regulation surrounding weed use and sales under Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MAUCRSA) since recreational marijuana use has been legalized in California.
Program description says that “Cannabis goods will be required to be transported inside commercial vehicles or trailers.” In addition, “Transportation may not be done by aircraft, watercraft, rail, drones, human powered vehicles, or unmanned vehicles.”
There have been start-up services such as MDeliver and Eaze that have promised delivery of marijuana are going to have part of their business cut due to this new ban. In addition, the Bureau states that those delivering the cannabis aren’t allowed to consume the substance while delivering.
