According to a report from AFTVNews, it appears that Amazon is gearing up to release two new Fire TV models later this year. The first Fire TV model will be a mid-tier dongle that you can plug in directly to a HDMI port, much like the Fire TV streaming stock. The second model will be a new flagship device with built-in Alexa functionality.
Both of the new models will provide support for 4K and HDR content, and will fit right in to the Fire TV lineup above the cheaper Fire TV Stick.
Looking at the image above, the new dongle appears to look lika square-version of Google’s Chromecast. It will feature 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a 1.5 GHz processor. The price of this device is featured to be between $60 and $80, according to AFTVNews.
For the new flagship model, it will come with built-in Alexa. Now, we know that current Amazon devices do have Alexa in them, but this new device will have more in-depth embedding of Alexa, such as far-field microphones so you can use voice commands. There will also be an integrated speaker, as well as responsive LED light-bar.
Reportedly, the top of the line box will have the same buttons like there are on the Echo Dot, such as mute, action, and volume controls. The device will come with IR remote control as well. This device may cost upwards of $100, according to AFTVNews.
This seems like a smart move on Amazon’s part. Bringing further integration of Alexa, more powerful hardware, and even more options to users.
