Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the company president and CEO Andrew House is stepping down in the company and deputy president John Kodera is taking his place. House has been with the company for the last 27 years, and been running the show since 2011.
House is 52 years old, will remain as chairman until the end of the year. Under House’s leadership, Sony’s PlayStation arm has been flourishing. The company was able to get back on top in the gaming industry. To put it into perspective, House’s PS4 strategy accumulated sales of 78 million units this fiscal year. In addition, the PS4 outsold Microsoft’s Xbox One by more than three to one ratio.
“PlayStation has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years but with the business having achieved record-breaking success, now seemed to be the right time for me to pursue new challenges,” House said in a statement.
House first served as the corporate communications when he started working with the company 27 years ago, then moved to help launch the original PlayStation console. Speaking of recent successes, he worked on the PlayStation VR headset that has been widely popular. It was released around a year ago and sold more than one million units.
