Speaking in an in-depth conversation with Axios co-founder Mike Allen, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg gave us some new information. She took responsibility for Facebook’s role in facilitating Russian misinformation and stated that ad targeting information will be included in the company’s disclosure on political interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Sandberg took things slightly further in terms of responsibility. She said that the company owes American “not just” an apology but continued “determination.” In addition, she admits that “Things happened on our platform that should not have happened.”
House lawmakers investigating the ads stated that after the meeting with Sandberg, they will release ads to the public. Sandberg said she “absolutely” agreed with the release of the ads to the public, and data on who those ads were shown to would also be included.
Sandberg also gave us further insight that Facebook has partnered with other companies in its investigation and will continue to work with the US government. “We want the full picture to be understood,” she said. “We don’t want this kind of foreign interference.”
