Children under the age of 15 in France will reportedly not be allowed to use their phones in classrooms starting in September. According to a report from The Guardian, students will still be allowed to bring their phones to schools, but they will need to be locked away until the end of the day. This rule will apply to kids from ages six to until they’re around 15.
One of the main reasons why the French government is considering this is to help minimize distractions. Furthermore, they say that the ban sends a “public health message” because kids should not be spending much (if any) time in front of their devices until they’re seven years old.
It’s unclear right now where students will be able to store their phones while they’re locked away because if they’re allowed to keep them in their backpack or pockets, then it may just be as easy for them to get around the rules. In addition, it’s unclear if teachers will really be able to properly enforce these rules. Only time will tell how successful these rules will be.
