Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp is adding some much needed features to the game this week. The company today announced a deal with South Korean game technology provider Minkonet that will bring 3D reply and killcam features to the game.
Minkonet, based in Seoul, is tasked to build the custom replay settings so that players can get playback of their previous encounter. At the same time, this new technology will allow a more robust spectating feature for viewers of e-sports contests and for Twitch live streamers. This feature definitely opens the doors for a more experience in the competitive area.
The killcam feature will allow prayers an immediate playback at a designated amount of time prior to their death in the game. This feature is primarily given so that players can see where they made a mistake and what they can do to improve on their failures. One of the biggest criticisms of the game is that PUBG‘s steep learning curve and the unforgiving structure on how long the games lasts while in a match and makes things very difficult for improvement. When a player spends more than 15 to 20 minutes without seeing another player in-game and then all of a sudden die, they need to be able to see what went wrong, how it went wrong, what they can do to make it better.
Aside from killcam coming in as a feature, both PUBG Corp and Minkonet say that this feature in particular will be used as method for detecting in-game cheating because a replay will provide video evidence of any hacking of the game code to gain more precise shooting, faster movement, or any other cheats that undermines other players’ experience. Both killcam and replay features will make their way to the game in its 1.0 update on December 20th.
