In an effort to improve on its transparency, YouTube has taken a new step in how it displays funding in news videos. Starting today, anyone viewing news broadcasts will see if the video has received any public funding or government support. You will see the notification right below the video.
This notification only applies to videos that are uploaded by news organizations. This new feature is rolling out today for US users, and YouTube has already cautioned everyone by saying that there may be bumps while it works to implement the feature: “We don’t expect it to be perfect,” the release said.
Eventually, YouTube said that it plans to expand this feature beyond its current scope. Right now, users can use the “send feedback” option to flag any imperfect implementation of the feature.
