in order to make ridesharing more affordable, Lyft Line was introduced by the company. The commuter benefits card lets you use pre-tax dollars to pay for a ride, allowing you to cut up to 35 percent of the price. Where these cards are available is not much of a concern anymore.
Lyft has decided to expand the use of commuter benefits to all 18 cities where Line currently operates (via TechCrunch). If your employer offers the cards in the first place, you can now have a low-cost method to commute to work without having to take a train or bus.
Your employer will have to offer benefits from a handful of providers (Benefit Resource, Benefit Solutions, Ameriflex, WageWorks, Navia or Zenefits) in order for this to work. It’s also worth mentioning that you are not guaranteed a discount just because you live in a Lyft Line area. Although, Lyft hopes that companies will embrace this idea and help staff get to work more quickly without them having to buy a car or use other more expensive methods of transportation.
