PS4 Pro is about to make games look much better on older TVs

Hold onto your seats because a new firmware update for the PS4 Pro is about to bring your older TVs back to life. The next PlayStation 4 firmware update will make the PS4 Pro a lot more like the Xbox One X. The upcoming software version 5.50 adds a super sampling mode to the PS4 Pro. Excited? You should be.

On the Xbox One X right now, this translates to higher frame-rates, improved visual clarity and more detailed graphics on select titles when the console is connected to 1080p TVs. That’s really great for Xbox users, but what about PS4 Pro users? Sony describes it as: “Certain games already have the ‘supersampling’ benefits as part of their ‘PS4 Pro Enhanced’ feature set, but this new mode can enhance the experience for those games that don’t already have the feature.”

All you have to do is go to your system settings menu, activate it and you should be all set to go. Easy as that. Aside from this nifty feature that Sony is bringing for PS4 Pro users, there are a few other handful features and benefits coming as well.

Once the software update goes live, you will be able to finally change your PS4 Wallpaper with an image from a USB stick, and will be able to do the same to customize a Team or tournament page. Music playback is also receiving some changes. Music controls for Spotify, the media player and USB music player apps are all coming to the main menu. Some PS Now games will also let you listen to your own tunes while streaming a classic title from Sony’s servers. Pretty cool addition, if you ask me.

Other than these, there’s also some more quality of life changes hitting your console too. There’s better organization for the game library and child play-time limits in the “Keiji” update as well. Xbox One added play limits last year with the Creators Update, and the Xbox One X hardware has been able to supersample games since last November. Reset Era has a list of games compiled that support supersampling.
