Essential’s first smartphone may not be the most perfect phone on the market, but it is a very beautifully designed smartphone, to say the least. The smartphone currently exists in black and white models that’s available to everyone, but now it seems that the company is bringing some new color choices to the market.
Essential is bringing a handful of limited edition color options for customers and gauge more interest in the smartphone. The first color to be released is the blue-and-copper Ocean Depths finish that the company has been teasing for quite some time.
Starting today, you’ll be able to order the Ocean Depths model directly from Essential. Then, the Stellar Gray model with a matte black back and a dark titanium frame will go on sale February 20. After that, the piano black model with bright copper frame will go on sale February 22.
In terms of pricing, all of these limited edition phones will come with the price point of $599. That is quite a premium pricing that the company is betting on. From the very beginning Essential has positioned itself as a company that’s not really interested in selling large units of the device right away. Its approach is different from the traditional approach Apple and Samsung tend to use. A recent report from IDC suggested that the company sold fewer than 90,000 devices during the first six months of being available on the market, despite also receiving a $200 discount from the device’s permanent pricing.
