For years now, Sony’s phones have largely looked very similar to one another because they’ve used the same type of shell design. It appears that the company has finally snapped out of it and has redesigned its flagship phone to be full screen.
Our friends over at Venture Beat have pictures and descriptions fo the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, both of which are expected to be revealed at MWC 2018.
Both phones seem similar, but are different sizes. The XZ2 rocks a 5.7-inch screen, while the compact version measures in at 5.0 inches. Both phones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip and will run on Android 8.0.0 Oreo. This is reportedly the same chip that’s coming in Samsung’s Galaxy S9.
In terms of color options for the XZ2, it will be offered in silver, pink, black and green. It will feature 3D glass on both sides, attached to an aluminum frame. The XZ2 comes in glossy finish, while its compact counterpart has a non-s tract polycarbonate finish. Both flagship phones will have Gorilla Glass 5 to protect their full-HD LCDs.
Venture Beat says that there will be a 19-megapixel camera on the back. It’s the same one that’s found on the XZ Premium. In addition, the phone will boast a fingerprint scanner. The XZ2 will have wireless charging capabilities, and have a 3180 mAh battery. The XZ2 compact will only support wired charging, and have a battery size of 2870 mAh.
The phones are expected to be unveiled on Sunday at MWC 2018. That’s where we’ll learn more details about the devices, such as pricing and availability. The devices will likely be released sometime in March.
