Android Oreo has quite an interesting feature inside of it: a Go Edition. The Go Edition is designed for smartphones that have 1GB of RAM or less. Google today announced that the first set of Android Oreo (Go Edition) phones will be unveiled next week and will be available for purchase soon after.
Google has been making an effort over the last few months to introduce a lightweight “Go” edition of its popular apps, such as Google Assistant and Gmail.
It’s definitely an interesting effort that takes a lot of time because it’s going in a different direction than the market has usually gone. This is because as older phones are phased out and new phones are purchased, apps tend to cater more to newer phones. Where does this leave phones phones? In the dust because of apps inabilities to adapt to older and slower hardware.
Cheaper phones and hardware are especially important in developing areas, where people may not always be able to afford the newest and most powerful phones. Android Oreo (Go Edition) gives Google a chance to gives cheaper hardware an opportunity with a more optimized software version that will be easier to run.
