Ford has revealed a pilot program that will take it beyond its home turf of Michigan and into the land of Miami. In the pilot program, Ford will see its autonomous vehicles on the streets of downtown Miami and Miami Beach.
In the initial test, it will separate the delivery and self-driving products, and will test to understand what route works for both customers and companies alike.
Ford decided to choose Miami because of Mayor Giménez’s openness to the idea, as well as the city’s big traffic congestion. By having self-driving testing done in the streets of Miami (even other places), it will spare the “pain points” for people to drive their own car. What Ford learns in Miami will help it shape tests in other cities as well as from-scratch autonomous car it plans to bring to the market in 2021.
