In recent years, Apple hasn’t paid too much attention to the ultra-thin MacBook Air, opting to give a lot of attention to its other offerings. But the computer is also quite popular. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone maker is reportedly planning to release a cheaper model of the MacBook Air at some point in the second quarter of 2018.
Per 9to5Mac, Kuo expects Apple to release a 13-inch MacBook Air “with a lower price tag,” sometime later this year. Given that the price tag will be lower, it should help boost Apple’s laptop sales. Right now, Apple sells the MacBook Air sells for $999, so we presume that Apple could price the new model either $749 or $799.
This year, Apple celebrates its tenth year in 2018 for this lineup, they company has really only given incremental updates for this line. Last summer was when Apple gave it an update with a faster 1.8GHz Intel processor.
The report also says that Apple will likely refresh its AirPods as well, and that HomePod has seen “mediocre” demand from the market. Could Apple potentially put the HomePod on the back burner in the future? Only time will tell.
