While companies like Blue April and Amazon have their own meal kits, Walmart doesn’t want to just sit around and sell third-party meal kits. It appears that the retailer is launching its own line of kits that will give you a meal for two without you having to prepare ingredients.
Walmart’s kits will cost between $8 and $15, and range from one-step and-you’re-done offerings like post roast to more flexible options that are pre-portioned kits like steak Dijon.
The company says their kits are callable right now in 250 stores. By the end of 2018, the company hopes to have them available in over 2,000 stores. To make it better, you’ll have the option to pick them through the company’s Online Grocery Pickup service as well.
There is something worth mentioning though. These are exactly the same kits you tend to get through services like Blue Apron, which tend to involve more preparation and more original foods. But Walmart’s intentions are clear though: the company is hoping you’ll get their kids on the way home rather than subscribe to an internet delivery service. You may need to go out of your way to get their kits, but you won’t have to base your meals around a fixed schedule like other services. That’s better, right?
