If you’re an Xfinity internet customer in the northeast, you may want to run a speed test on your internet. Comcast has announced that it’s increasing the download speeds for internet users in a total of 14 northeastern states, from Maine all the way down to Virginia.
Each of Comcast’s four internet tiers in Xfinity are increasing, though it does vary on how much. The two higher-speed “Blast” and “Performance Pro” packages are seeing an increase from 200 and 150 Mbps to 250 and 150 Mbps, respectively. The basic “Performance” tier, meanwhile, is receiving bump from 25 to 60 Mbps, and the “Starter” tier is being bumped from 10 to 15 Mbps.
In terms of customers’ bill, the company says that customers won’t see a change after these speed boosts go into effect. With this speed increase, 80 percent of Xfinit Internet customers have speeds of 150 Mbps or more. We may not have 1 gigabit speeds across the US just yet, but it’s hard to complain when you’re getting speed boosts fro your ISP at no extra charge to you.
Comcast didn’t mention any changes to the upload speeds on its packages, which continue to be quite small comparing to what you get for your download speeds.
The company says that the updated speeds will roll out over the next month, and to access to new speeds, customers will have to reboot their modems. Speaking in terms of if this is upgrades only to northeast region, a Comcast spokesperson said that it’s typical for the company to bring such changes in specific areas rather than nationwide in one rollout. The company says it’s common to make changes to certain areas first and then rollout the changes accordingly to other areas.
