If your Alexa-powered device is giving you some weird laughs or just not responding in general to you, you’re not alone. Users are complaining that their device would randomly laugh or simply refuse to do what they are asking. No, Alexa isn’t looking to murder you.
Amazon has confirmed that they are aware of this issue and are “working to fix it.” The company hasn’t provided any details as what’s wrong, but it’s worth noting that this isn’t the case of accidentally triggering Alexa, rather the random laughter kicks in without even triggering the signature blue light that comes with Echo speakers and other Alexa devices.
Prior to this issue, Alexa suffered an outage as part of a broader cloud service problems just a few days ago, and with this on the company’s hands, things could just keep getting worse. The company is spending massive amounts of money on a Super Bowl ad to get people to buy their Alexa devices, but having Alexa randomly laugh and creep out users isn’t the best way o get new customers.
So Alexa decided to laugh randomly while I was in the kitchen. Freaked @SnootyJuicer and I out. I thought a kid was laughing behind me. pic.twitter.com/6dblzkiQHp
