Kickstarter Patron pilot program hopes to generate larger pledges for creators

Kickstarter is bringing a new pilot program that will. Match up companies, organizations and institutions with projects that need larger amounts in funding, TechCrunch reports. The new pilot program is called Kickstarter Patrons where nonprofit and for-profit groups selected to take part in the program will be required to provide multiple pledges each worth $1,000 or more.

In the program, Kickstarted will select Patrons and help assist by directing them towards projects that are more aligned with their interests. “While the program is simple, the opportunity to help independent creators hit their funding goals while building relationships with major institutions that can continue to follow and support their career is profound,” Kickstarter said.

This program is being released a few months after the company relaunched Drip, a Patreon-like Subscription crowdfunding platform. At launch, two groups are already on board — American Documentary (AmDoc) and Pinewood Atlanta Studios. Both already have Paterson profiles on Kickstarter. AmDoc’s says that it’s has $100,000 to put towards creator projects and Pinewood Atlanta Studios has announced $10,000.

Kickstarter will be piloting the program over the next year.
