Every since we learned about Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities, the tech industry has been in panicking to push out fixes. Microsoft has taken another step towards fixing more than a billion PCs worldwide against these vulnerabilities.
In this week’s Patch Tuesday, updates have been released for PCs running x86 versions of Windows 7 and 8.1 against Meltdown. This means that all currently supported Windows releases will now include defense against this vulnerability.
In addition, the update will also take care of antivirus compatibility check that had blocked previous security updates on Windows 10. The check has been lifted to “expand the breadth of Windows 10 devices offered cumulative Windows security updates, including software protections for Spectre and Meltdown.” Microsoft said it plans to continue blocking security updates on PCs with incompatible antivirus drivers to help “avoid any issues.”
