WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton tweets ‘#deleteFacebook’

Calls for users to delete their presence on Facebook have increased drastically after reports of how Cambridge Analytica allegedly used the platform, many of them haven’t come from people of influence.

WhatsApp co-founder Brian Action left Facebook last year, and today, he tweeted “It is time. #deletefacebook.” Acton must really not like what’s been happening around Facebook lately. I don’t blame him.

Facebook bought WhatsApp back in 2014 for $22 billion. After leaving the company last year, Acton’s main focus is now data protection and privacy. He wrote about his focus last month after donating $50 million to launch the Signal foundation. At the time, he said: “We believe there is an opportunity to act in the public interest and make a meaningful contribution to society by building sustainable technology that respects users and does not rely on the commoditization of personal data.”
