According to the Wall Street Journal, starting August, the Interscope Records and Beats co-founder plans to scale back his involvement with Apple Music. Sources that are close to Iovine say that he will transition to a more consulting role and will no longe be involved in daily operations at Apple Music.
When Beats was bought out by Apple in 2014, that’s when Iovine joined Apple. He played a significant role in launching Apple Music, which has grown steadily may even overtake Spotify this year in subscriber count. In addition, Iovine is the one behind Apple Music’s incorporation of original video like the Planet of the Apps and Carpool Karaoke.
Wall Street Journal‘s sources say that Iovine plans to spend more time with his family after he takes a step back from his role at Apple Music. He will, however, assist Apple Senior VP Eddy Cue whenever needed.
